Here and There

In addition to finalizing our housing plans, we had lots of other things going on in April.  We traveled to New Castle, Pennsylvania at the start of the month for the ninetieth birthday of Paul Kennedy, father of Elise’s cousin Carol (Tweety) Richards.  This was the first road trip with both kids, and overall they did pretty well, although Vivian had us worried when she screamed for the first hour (as we sat in DC rush hour traffic).  The kids enjoyed meeting their cousins from New Castle, and even got to participate in an early Easter egg hunt at Tweety and Denny’s house.

Next up was the circus.  Elise got stuck at the hospital, so Bryant had the privilege of taking both kids to the big top by himself.  It was pouring rain, which made for an interesting outing (imagine Bryant holding Vivian and an umbrella with one arm while trying to steer Henry clear of rain puddles with the other).  Once inside, the kids enjoyed seeing The Greatest Show on Earth.  Vivian actually seemed more engaged than Henry (who was constantly wandering up and down the aisles).  She was particularly excited to watch the elephants perform and was clapping and bopping to the circus music.  After stuffing ourselves with popcorn, nachos, and snow cones, we made a mad dash for the car and managed to return home only partially soaked.
At the end of the month, Bryant and Henry flew to Huntsville, Alabama for the first communion of Bryant’s niece, Micah.  Henry was very excited to be on a plane and kept asking when the stewards were going to serve “snack.”  In Huntsville, we enjoyed hanging out in Uncle Kevin’s backyard, having dinner at a local German restaurant, and going to a special Mother’s Day brunch with Mimi Joanne.  It was a quick trip, but the whole family will be headed back to Huntsville in a few short weeks for Memorial Day weekend.
